OnePlus starts teasing OnePlus 2 specs as it confirms its choice of SoC

In just a couple more weeks, Q3 2015 will be upon us, and as we’ve noted before, that’s going to mean a period full of some of the highest-profile smartphone launches all year. One of the many handsets we’re expecting to see debut is the follow-up to last year’s OnePlus One, and though the manufacturer has long confirmed that a OnePlus 2 is in the works, so far it hasn’t shared many details about the phone. Today that all starts changing, as the manufacturer shares one of the most important components that will go into making up the OnePlus 2: a Snapdragon 810 SoC.


The decision to go with an 810 was looking likely after it showed up in some benchmark listings, and the company’s statement here confirms those plans.

OnePlus goes out of its way to emphasize that this will be a “v2.1” edition of the chip, with optimized hardware and software intended to avoid the heat-related concerns often associated with 810-based phones.

The company insists that it put this new 810 chip through rigorous testing before deciding on it, and that even with it present the OnePlus 2 “meets the industry standard for phone temperature, even with hours of use.”

We look forward to learning more about OnePlus 2 hardware in the weeks to come, with promises that more specs will be revealed one-by-one in the time leading up to the handset’s ultimate launch.
